A Study on the Expression of Ras Protein in the Colorectal Cancer

Abstract
The expression of the ras oncogene in the colorectal cancer and normal colonic tissue was examined with the immunohistochemistry using anti-ras antibody.
@The results were as follows;
@EN 1. The ras positivity of cancer tissues was 33.3%(10/30), and that of normal colonic tissues was 11.1%(1/9).
2. The ras positivity was 30% in men and 35% in women, and there was no significant difference.
3. The age in average of the ras(+) group was 64.8 years, and that of the ras(-) group was 54.9 years(p=0.02).
4. The average hemoglobin levels of the ras(+) and ras(-) groups were not different from each other. The average albumin levels of the ras(+) and ras(-) groups were not different either.
5. The ras positivity according to various CEA levels was not different.
6. The ras positivity according to the location of cancer, histopathologic findings, lymph node status, and the stage were not different respectively.
In conclusion, the measurement of the ras protein alone for prognosis was not successful, so the measurement of the mutation of other oncogenes will be required for better understanding and treatment of the colorectal cancer.
